What is ClickBank?
ClickBank is one of the most popular affiliate marketplaces for digital products. The Boise, Idaho-based company was founded in 1998 by Tim and Eileen Barber and has more than six-million clients worldwide.
As an affiliate, you can find thousands of products to promote on the platform. And as a vendor, ClickBank will allow you to reach affiliate marketers that can help you increase the sales of your product.
Now let’s have a look at how to use and make money with ClickBank!
How to Sign Up for ClickBank
What’s great about ClickBank is that signing up is very easy and that they accept almost everyone (except residents of a handful of countries).
In combination with the huge number of products to choose from, this makes ClickBank perfect for beginners.
Head to ClickBank.com and start the registration process.
Step 1: Personal Information
First, you need to provide a few personal details. Your country, name, phone number, and email are all mandatory. You can also set your password.
Step 2: Terms and Conditions
Read the Terms and Conditions. If you understand and accept, check the box and click on “Join ClickBank”.
Step 3: Complete Profile
In the final step, you will complete your profile. Provide your address so ClickBank can send your check to you, choose your preferred language and enter your Tax ID.
Step 4: Manage Account Nicknames
Navigate to “Manage Account Nicknames” using the menu on the left and click on “Create Account”. Choose your Account Type (Vendor, Affiliate, or both) and Account Nickname.
Your nickname will appear in the description of payments you receive from ClickBank. It will also be visible to your customers in your affiliate links, so choose your nickname accordingly.
Congratulations, you are now ready to make money with ClickBank!
How to Choose an Offer From the ClickBank Marketplace to Promote
Once you have logged in, click on “Marketplace”.
Leave the “Find Products” field empty and click on the magnifier to see all offers and scroll through them. You’ll see that a lot of the top performing offers are from three niches:
- Health & Fitness
- Dating & Relationships
- Money & Finance
Are those products the best to make money with ClickBank?
Using ClickBank Search Parameters
To identify the best products to promote, get familiar with the filters.
Gravity shows you how many affiliates have successfully sold this product during the last 12 weeks. ClickBank doesn’t disclose how they calculate Gravity, only that they add somewhere from 0.1 to 1 to it for every sale. Recent transactions get a higher value.
Low Gravity indicates that the product doesn’t sell, either because it doesn’t generate any interest or the selling page doesn’t convert. Stay away from those offers.
High Gravity means that the offer is selling well, but the competition could be tough. More experienced affiliates with established websites, large email lists, and a big advertising budget are probably already promoting the product, making it harder for beginners to compete.
So what does that mean for you? Aim for a Gravity between 20 and 100. Also, keep an eye on the Vendor Activation Date. If a product has a rather low Gravity of 20 but was very recently launched, you might just have found an upcoming top seller.
The average dollar amount that is paid out to the affiliate after the initial sale. Don’t worry about this too much if you sell products with subscriptions (which you should).
The average dollar amount that is paid out to the affiliate per sale. This includes the initial sale and all recurring subscription revenue. In the real world, this is also known as Customer Lifetime Value (CLV).
Checking Customer Reviews
What better way to make money with ClickBank than to sell a product that customers actually love?
Be aware of most reviews you will find on the internet though, as they are very often biased (either written by affiliates trying to sell the product, or competitors).
Take your time and do some research about the product. Or better yet buy and review it yourself! The refund/cancellation rate is also a good indicator.
Reading the Affiliate Page
Some vendors provide their affiliates with resources (email swipes, banners etc.) and statistics about their customers.
This allows you to target customer groups that are proven to convert with your advertisements. It also shows that the vendor is serious about affiliate marketing and cares about us.
You can use the filter “Affiliates Tools Page” to only show offers with an affiliate page.
Checking the Sales Page
If the sales page doesn’t convert, it won’t matter how much traffic you send through your affiliate link. Would you buy from this site? Does the site look trustworthy to you? If it doesn’t, others will probably feel the same and this offer won’t help you make money with ClickBank.
Creating An Affiliate Link
Once you identify the right offer, click on “Promote”.
Your Account Nickname should already be filled in. The Tracking ID helps you answer questions like “How many clicks did come from Facebook?” or “How many clicks from my blog did end up buying the product?”.
This is extremely valuable information, so make sure to take advantage of it! Create an affiliate link with a unique Tracking ID for every source of traffic you want to track.
Click on “Generate Hoplinks” and copy the link. Every time someone clicks that link and buys the product, you will earn a commission!
How to Promote ClickBank Products
But before you can make money with ClickBank, people need to see and click your affiliate links first. Therefore, you have to create some type of content.
The Concept of Preselling
You can’t just send people to the sales page and expect them to convert well. Why should someone buy the product you promote? Who are they buying from?
If you answer those questions before you actually start selling the product, your conversion rates can improve dramatically.
This is how you do it:
- Get potential customers to subscribe to your newsletter using a Lead Magnet (usually a free eBook or Webinar on the topic)
- Promote the product on your “Thanks for subscribing” page
- Promote the product in your emails
The process is very simplified, but you get the idea. Provide value first and then ask the customer to buy.
Writing or Filming a Review
One of the ways to presell a product is to write or film a review of it.
People searching for a review already know about the product and have an idea of what it is. All you need to do is convince them that it is the right product or provide them with an alternative.
That said, reviews are a popular way of promoting products. Search for other reviews first and then decide if you can compete with them.
Using Material Provided by the Seller
Some sellers even let you copy their material. They provide you with ad swipes, banners and email templates you can literally copy and paste.
Nobody knows more about the buyers than the seller of the product, so analyze everything they give you access to and then create ads and emails especially for your audience.
Where to Post Your Affiliate Links
Here are some places where you can post your link:
- Social Media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, …)
Testing and Improving Your Campaigns
Remember the Tracking ID you entered when creating your affiliate links? Make sure to check your reports regularly and find answers to the following questions:
- Where do most of my clicks come from?
- Where do most of my conversions come from?
- Which traffic source generates the highest Avg $/Sale?
Looking at the conversion rate, for example, you obviously might want to drive more traffic to the source with the highest conversions.
At the same time, you need to understand why other traffic sources are not performing well. Is there a problem with the content? Does it not reflect the content of the sales page?
Affiliate marketing and advertising are all about testing and improving.
